Welcome to the new Christians in Science web magazine - a place for students to write about, discuss and explore issues of science and faith.
We're really excited to welcome you to the first edition of our new web-magazine, Connect!
So, why a new publication? Christians in Science are invested in engaging and equipping the next generation of Christians in the Sciences. Along with running a mentoring scheme, providing training in science and faith and its communication, and running events and conferences, we want to provide a space for Christian science students to learn from one another, and to grow in their ability to communicate science and faith. We want to promote a sense of wonder at God's creation as well as think rationally about how theology and science interact.
Being a scientist and a Christian isn't necessarily easy, especially at university, so we want to encourage you and support you as you think through the implications for your faith of all you're learning and researching . Honest questions, not necessarily simple answers.
In this, our first edition, we take a look at science and faith as a whole - although our subsequent editions will take a more focused look at different topics. To begin, DPhil Science and Theology student, Victoria Lorrimar, takes us through an overview of the science-faith dialogue, both explaining some of the historic dialogue and suggesting how we can move forward. PhD student Josh Ramsay tells us why he is a member of CiS, and the story of how he got involved in the student group at Birmingham University. We take space to consider how the awe and wonder of the natural world around us inspires both our research and our worship; and take an inside look into what being at UCCF's Forum, in the Hub, was like this summer.
Our undergraduate rep, Naomi Brehm, shares with us her top 10 tips for Freshers - which, as an editorial aside, is well worth checking out for inspiration and encouragement no matter where in your studies you are! Looking forward to scientific life beyond the student realm, we wanted to see what makes our professional friends in CiS tick - and asked them for the one fact that still inspires them. Check out the collection of brilliant facts from some inspirational people!
We're so pleased to get this new project off the ground and look forward to seeing it grow and develop as we explore new topics. We will be on the look-out for contributors all the time, so if anything inspires you to put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) let us know, as we'd love to consider including it. We are also really keen to have an interview every edition, so if there's someone you'd love to have coffee with and pick their brains then go for it - or ask us to help set it up for you!
Thanks for reading Connect, we really hope you enjoy and are inspired by it.
